MIND THE GUT
2017
The exhibition Mind the Gut opened in the basement of Medical Museion, Copenhagen in 2017. It explores the connections between the gut and brain and how scientists, artist and citizens have been investigating the axis throughout history as well as today. The exhibition concept and approach was developed by the two head curators Louise Whiteley and Adam Bencard and the concept won the Bikuben’s Vision Award in 2015. The idea was to mirror the complex topic with an equally complex or multifaceted approach to create an exhibition about it; inviting both artists and scientists to co-curate the exhibition together with the museums curator team from the fields of psychology, philosophy, cultural history and conservation.
I had the pleasure of being part of the co-curatorial team and co-develop ad well as produce the installations ‘Bacterial Worlds’, ‘Adaptions’ and ‘The gut came first’. I was also employed to do research on the experimental approach to exhibition design. The approach is described in the article Curating experimental entanglements (Bencard, A., Whiteley, L. and Thon, C. H.) in the anthology Curatorial Challenges, Routledge, 2019.
